Our story

It would be really fun to tell you that we came across each other at a party or in the supermarket where our eyes met and it was love at first sight. But it is not how it went down. The truth is that we can thank our love to the modern way of dating, a dating app. After the exchange of some texts, the first date was set and we met each other on a summer evening in Hilversum. There was instant chemistry and in between some beers on a terrace the conversation was flowing. One date followed another and we found ourselves in a summer fling. As the summer came to an end, our relationship deepened and we officially became a couple. Szandra mentioned during that time that if we are to do this, it better ends in marriage! And all’s well that ends well…5 years later here we are, inviting you to our wedding!

One month after this, we had our first holiday in Mallorca and 6 months later, we moved in together. A week later our happiness was overshadowed as Covid-19 hit and we got locked down in our home. Being together 24-7, we got to know each other very well, very quickly. Luckily, it only strengthened our connection. We complement each other in our day-to-day life. Mark is relaxed and spontaneous, while Szandra is a get-it-done and planner type. The same goes for travelling, our characters make us a firm travel couple. We both love adventures and want to travel the world as much as possible. In 2022, we spent 4,5 months travelling through Middle-and South America and it brought our relationship to a whole new level. We have now been to 15 countries together and counting. We share our passion for underwater life and we got certified together for advanced scuba diving. Even though the idea of proposing underwater was mentioned a couple of times (mostly as a joke), Mark went down on one knee on the pier on Coron island in the Philippines. The most memorable holiday so far!

Coming from two different cultures only makes our relationship more interesting. Mark developed a love for Hungarian cuisine – although he will never understand the concept of fruit soup (why do we eat dessert as a starter?!). He works on learning Hungarian to this day, with more-less success. He finds the little mistakes in Szandra’s Dutch very cute. Szandra is well-integrated to Dutch culture by now, but she still kept her Hungarian spark. We take pieces from both cultures and make our own traditions. We spend time in Hungary every year with Szandra’s family and we also go on many occasions to the North to visit Mark’s family.

We are looking forward to celebrating our love together with our families and friends.
